Do you like to sing? Do you like to laugh? If you think you’d enjoy making beautiful a cappella music in a relaxed, fun-filled setting, please consider visiting the Friends In Harmony or Harmony Belles choruses.

Both choruses meet in the magnificent second-floor choir rehearsal facility at University United Methodist Church at 5084 DeZavala Road, at the corner of Vance Jackson. The 120-voice men’s chorus meets from 6:45 to 8:45 on Mondays. The rapidly growing women’s chorus, now an inclusive group of about eighty women of all ages, rehearses at the same times on Thursdays.

No previous experience is necessary. No auditions are required. Actually, well over 85% of our singers are enjoying their first introduction to harmonizing in the four-part barbershop style. Come try it… and bring a friend or two with you!

Info please. Level of music difficulty. Uniforms needed?

    • Hi David – Great question. Our songs are all arranged in the barbershop style which means the lead part predominantly sings melody. We sing a wide selection of folk, gospel, and patriotic songs. Most are straightforward and you would be surrounded by guys who already know the part. The harmony parts can be more challenging. You probably know a few songs already…

      Ain’t We Got Fun
      Battle Hymn Of The Republic
      Beautiful Savior
      Bless This House
Bring Back Those Good Old Days
      The Chordbuster March
      Down By the Riverside
      From the First Hello
      Gospel Medley
      Happy Birthday
      Hi Neighbor
      I Believe
I Love… That Old Barbershop Style
      If the Lord Be Willing
      In the Good Old Summertime
      Irish Blessing
      Keep America Singing
      Lida Rose
      Mansions Of The Lord
      Sweet Hour of Prayer
      The Lords Prayer
      The Old Songs
      The Star Spangled Banner

Uniforms are available for purchase yellow shirt and/or striped jacket – the rest is just black shoes and black pants of your own, come for a visit and we will hook you up with more details!

We have guest music available and depending on your preferred part, everything from really high to really low, we’ll put you near a group of guys that can help you along. Our director’s name is Artie Dolt, but just let anyone know you are new and want to sing and we’ll make it happen! We also welcome guests and family members to come listen.
